If this isn t your first time reading Lang Leav s work, you pretty much know what to expect off the bat With the turn of every page, Sea of Strangers invites you to go beyond love and loss to explore themes of self discovery and empowerment as you navigate your way around the human heart.Though this collection has nothing new going on for it, compared to the two previous collections I read and reviewed Lullabies The Universe of Us , sometimes a familiar writing style is a comfort I tend to seek [...]
Thank you Andrews McMeel Publishing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review Finished my first book for 2018 In Lang Leav s new poetry collection, Sea of Strangers is about love, breakups and healing These topics are common from her previous collections and delivers each prose with emotions Gladly she explores inspirational and empowering poems It s refreshing and I like it Overall, this is good but clich Especially about breakups Majority of them are monotonous
Sea of Strangers by Lang Leav is the poet s fourth publish collection Leav is an international bestselling author and social media sensation She is the winner of a Qantas Spirit of Youth Award and coveted Churchill Fellowship. This my second review of one of Leav s books I was introduced to her work by another review that of her partner, Michael Faudet Both write short poems and pieces of prose which is a growing trend in the reading of younger adults and hip kids today One doesn t have to look t [...]
Sea of Strangers is currently not working for me Maybe I m not sad enough, or maybe I m too sad for all the wrong reasons I cannot take the lose I feel from Leav s poetry right now. This isn t going to my did not finish shelf I ll put it on hold until I ll get into the right mood for poetry.
I have always loved Lang s poetry, ever since I can remember knowing it existed I used to read her work over and over as a teen, getting lost in how emotive and haunting it was When I saw that she was releasing a new collection, I couldn t wait to read it, and was so grateful to get my hands on it She s been sitting on some of this work for a decade, but man, was it worth the wait Greet the world with no expectation.Love as though you have never been hurt or betrayed.Let go of the ones who take [...]
3.75 stars I really enjoyed this one and its one of my fav collections by her I thought it was a solid collection with lovely poems I really liked how this had a theme of the sea, the ocean and water
I wasn t the biggest of Lang Leav s first poetry collections, but this one this one was so much better than everything I expected I went into this collection thinking it would be nothing exceptional, just an average poetry book, but I was wrong I liked it a lot It hit home I m emotional right now. This collection is full of inspirational little poems, delicate teeny tiny poems, there to make you realise you re not alone in your feelings More than once I found myself thinking, This is exactly what [...]
Loved this Lang Leav is fantastic.
Disclaimer Received a free digital copy of the book through Netgalley One thing I know for sure now is that Leav s poetry short prose collections are much stronger than her novels PERIOD Although the themes were typical and reminded me of R.H Sin work which I don t really like, the writing is what forced me to give this a 3 stars Another similarity between Leav s and Sin s work is that while reading I strongly felt that my rating could ve been much higher if it wasn t for the repetitive concocti [...]
RECEIVED AN ADVANCE READER COPY FOR A REVIEW if i have learned anything this year, its that I won t ever be ready for what life throws at me the poems are pretty much bittersweet with a touch of nostalgia and if not that, something that you can relate to on a level so deep the mariana trench got jealous.officially my favortie lang leav poem book even though most of the poems are still about love as per usual thank you and goodbye.
I still recommend it to everyone who haven t read anything by Lang Leav yet because her poems are really beautiful It s just that I ve read Memories and Lullabies and this is the third poetry collection I read by her and sadly, I feel like they are very similar It s nice because you know what to expect But I also love when writers poets take on different subjects styles and often try new things.I ve had some poems that I really liked, her writing is soft and emotional and the book was very fast [...]
3.5 I had expected to love this than I did I love the format, the easy switch between poetry and prose, how both feel good and beautiful Somehow her writing manages to feel soft at all times, and both kind and or strong when it fits I will celebrate this life of mine, with or without you The moon does not need the sun to tell her she is already whole. What made me love it less, probably, is the large number of poems focussing on losing a loved one or losing love for someone It s not that those p [...]
Original review This book was provided by the Publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review Thank you Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing Sea of Strangers is a poetry and prose collection about love, breakup, loss and your fragile heart Sea of Strangers is a beautiful poetry and prose collection and also the first collection that I ve ever read written by Lang Leav I really like Lang Leav s writing style and I cannot wait to discover poems written by her I could relate to so [...]
The road of the ocean like an endless echo, of that postcard afternoon when I heard your laughter like a storm rolling in the distance. If life had a scent, it would be seaweed and sandcastles, on the cusp of November, and the sigh of your breath on my sun kissed Skin Oh, Lang Leav just appeals to my eternally 17 year old poetry loving soul Love that this collection s theme centers around the Sea.
What can i say I m a fan
this is easily leav s best work i do feel like with every collection, she gets slightly better at writing, but still, i can t really say i like reading her work i just have no impulse control i do believe she s better at writing prose than poetry so i m actually interested in reading of that as for poetry, i still think she has a lot of room for improvement.
I cannot rate this poetry book I didn t really enjoy it, purely because I couldn t relate to the poems, except for maybe four I haven t been in love so I struggle with words about love and loss If you ve ever been in love, I say give this book a try
Some gems, but the themes of move on , love yourself etc got a repetitive.I will celebrate this life of mine, with or without you The moon does not need the sun to tell her she is already whole.
I didn t read any of Leav s work before this book, so I was a little surprised disappointed that this was basically slightly less cliched, but not by much another Rupi Kaur vibes type book I m sure a lot of people enjoyed this, but not for me.
I have never been a fan of Lang Leav s writing but it has become a tradition for me to read and review her work To be honest, I find her poems flat and monotonous I don t feel anything when I read her collection My friends rave about how insightful and emotionally raw her poems are but to me it just reeks of mediocrity. Her poems are supposed to be about love and heartbreak This particular collection has upgraded to empowerment after a difficult breakup But as I read through the short entries I c [...]
I think I outgrew this kind of poetry and that s why I just didn t connect to this collection One or two pieces felt something substantial but the rest just didn t make any impact Also poems with different themes were just mixed together I am reading a poem on unrequited love and the net piece is a Tumblr y motivation piece Then we have a piece about contentment Maybe its a personal peeve but I feel the editing could have been better.I think this will be my last book by Lang Leav.1.5 stars
I received a digital ARC of Lang Leav s latest poetry collection, Sea of Strangers, via Net Galley and Andrew McMeel Publishing in exchange for an honest review I ve perused the pages of Leav s other collections on a number bookstore runs, but nothing I read ever spoke to me enough to purchase her books Sea of Strangers managed to shift my opinion of her work this collection contains some genuinely gorgeous poems I ve come to expect simplicity and banality from modern poetry, but I didn t find t [...]
I read this book recently, and I haven t had the opportunity to review it sooner I have read almost all of Lang Leav s books so far, and it would be no exaggeration to say that I really like her work Though I still stand by the idea of contemporary poetry being a bit shallow as compared to traditional poetry, Lang is always hitting the mark with her simple words and touching poetry Among all her contemporaries that I ve read, she is the one that I relate to the most I kept wondering why that is, [...]
Poetry like this is hard to review, because it feels so personal and intimate, and I feel like my thoughts are just as intimate. That being said, Sea of Strangers is actually my first taste of Lang Leav s poetry, and I m definitely hooked Leav explores concepts of love, loss, and growth I would consider this along the lines of prose than what I would consider poetry even though free verse poetry is pretty subjective, I suppose , but the pieces were very concise while managing to hold enough deta [...]
I was able to read this eARC thanks to NetGalley in exchange for an honest review The description given on NetGalley drew me in, by also made me wary to read since this is my first time enjoying Lang Leav s work Sea of Strangers by Lang Leav picks up from her previous international bestselling books including Love Misadventure, Lullabies, and The Universe of Us, and sets sail for a grand new adventure This is a collection of both poems and prose There are quick and to the point pieces, as well a [...]
I have wanted to read Lang Leav s work for years, and plumped for her newest book, Sea of Strangers, as my beginning point solely because I received a review copy of it from Netgalley The poetry and prose included here are all rather brief, but there is a sense of quiet, thoughtful reflection that seeps into each of them I awarded this three rather than four stars because a lot of the content was quite similar in its themes and subject matter almost all of the poems or small prose pieces are abo [...]
I still like to read Lang Leav because her I s are I s and not i s Does it make sense It bothered me a lot when I read other poets Quite like her previous works, Lang Leav explores love, loss, and writing The pieces sound familiar because so many writers including Leav have been asking us to move on , embrace the pain , love the whole moon looks at the ceiling and shakes her head Despite the trite, Lang Leav won a wee bit of love from me A very few poems were unlike other writers s.Lang Leav wro [...]
Into a wella girl threw a penny. What do you wish for asked the well.I wish for a penny, said the girl.I didn t have high expectations of this collection I haven t exactly been a fan of Leav s poetry in the past In fact, I don t even know why I decided to pick this collection up But I am glad I did I thoroughly enjoyed Sea of Strangers, and many of the poem s really resonated with me which is why I struggled with Leav s previous collections I just couldn t connect with them.Sea of Strangers is so [...]
I absolutely adored this book I have one poetry collection by Lang Leav but I haven t had the chance to pick it up yet This was a good book to start with because it was so relatable I could feel all of Lang s words, and the emotion was so strong It is so powerful and is all about female empowerment It was an amazing collection, and I am so glad I was able to read this ahead of time I know I will be buying the physical copy soon
Books 29 2018 3 of 5 stars I dunno why but i love this pieces tahn her three previous poems collection Maybe because it is about someone who s moving on So many quotes that i ve highlighted and somehow related with my past relationship However i m kinda bored with type of poems thats why it is no than 3 stars for meThank you Bookmate
