What do you call it when an author sets up a premise and promptly destroys it with a stupid sentence There must be a term for it Like shitass For example the scientists were normally able to conduct their explorations with no interference from the outside world BUT NOT TONIGHT Or this gem It was not a place where anyone in his right mind would choose to be.BUT SOMEONE WAS THERE How about The dart guns were designed to fire tranquilizers But these were loaded with something elseMETHING DEADLY And [...]
It s like Dirk Pitt without the storytelling meets Matthew Reilly without the creative research A decent book for reading on the beach and leaving behind for the next guy an easy read and mindless brain candy if you re in a hurry you can just read every other page and you won t lose the plot As an actual book disappointing Weaknesses include thin plot, hackneyed writing, painful and resistive clich s must every villain make the point that they re not a James Bond villain , formulaic storytelling [...]
Ooooookkkkaaayyyy This is an action thriller that really didnt have enough action to thrill me.I read the first book in this series where Eddie and Nina set out to find Atlantis This seems to have gone so well and been so successful that our writer decided that a search for another mythical place was in order and would be a great idea.Except of course that things don t go a lot differently in this book than they did in the first.Well they don t go that differently except for the addition of an a [...]
Okay, so I know how I talked up this series after reading the 1st one Granted, the genre is super cliche but I thought Hunt for Atlantis was even good enough to get 5 stars Why Because that was an entertaining novel McDermott apparently did not realize what made the first novel good because almost all of that gets lost here. The Hercules stuff is good and this is where the book redeems itself a bit But the problem is that it s not even really the main plot of the book I won t get into the role it [...]
I picked up a copy of this over the top adventure novel at a book swap, and read it on a long plane trip Suffice to say that it kept be sufficiently entertained that I hardly noticed the discomfort of the cramped seats, screaming babies, and overly enthusiastic air conditioning on my budget airline. This book is apparently a sequel to McDermott s THE HUNT FOR ATLANTIS, which I have not read In that book, archeologist Nina Wilde and her bodyguard boyfriend Eddie Chase uncover the lost world of the [...]
I like the series It seems very promising I m not too sure about my feelings for the MC s This series reminds me somewhat of the hunters series by Chris Kuzneski.
Fun read If you like James Bond or India Jones you ll enjoy these books This is book 2 and I highly recommend reading the book 1 first which is The Hunt for Atlantis Though this book does stand alone, reading the first book will give the read a better understanding of the lead character s relationships.
The book was full of action, great character building, and mystery However, I found it a little dull after reading book one The Hunt For AtlantisMost of The Tomb of Hercules gave me a sense of dejavue I probably wouldn t read it again.
Honestly, didn t finish this book, but am sending it and the rest of the series back to the library I like the premise of the books, but one main character has begun to irritate me So back they go I have many books on the shelf waiting to be read.
The second in this series, although I didn t enjoy this one as much as the first, I will go on to 3 Am enjoying the characters and the adventures This one was a little bit over the top and I thought went on a little too long Even though it took me awhile to read I kept getting interrupted with library holds coming in , I enjoyed it Fun summer read
Don t be fooled by two things 1 That the titular Tomb of Hercules plays much of a part in proceedings and 2 That Andy McDermott s sequel to the rip roaring The Hunt for Atlantis is nearly as exciting or blissfully fun This reads like an epilogue to that story stretched out to 600 pages, with McDermott choosing to focus way way too much on James Bond esque outlandish spy fi action beats than actually telling a truly interesting, history weaving narrative as in the previous book The fact he frequ [...]
I enjoyed the first entry in this series, The Hunt for Atlantis Unfortunately, The Tomb of Hercules, while still mindlessly entertaining adventure, gets bogged down in teenage angst style relationship woes and a lack of focus.18 months after discovering Atlantis, Nina Wilde and Eddie Chase are in a relationship Alas, they fight about everything and Nina is interested in getting wildly expensive haircuts and Armani suits to go with her new bureaucratic position than with actually going out and d [...]
This was a Hardy Boys setting of character types operating independently against James Bond style corporate madmen women bent on using their incredibly unbelievable network of world resources to gain world domination. In real life a person can t walk down the street without government intervention and the military or some special government agency is constantly monitoring and intervening in every country and in every unusual major corporate physical building or excavation site Not in this book G [...]
Having read the first book, you should know what you re getting into by now. When I just want to read something that is entertaining, and fun almost to the point of being silly McDermott is the way to go They re James Bond meets Indiana Jones meets Crank or something While some reviewers seem to take issue with that, I m not exactly sure why.One of the things I appreciate about these books and McDermott, is that at no time is he ever trying to be anything else There are no pretensions here. Some p [...]
if you put the tomb of hercules as title, mr mcdermott, please put the tomb in than just one chapter merasa ditipu after the fantastic, movie like adventure in search for atlantis, i thought the tomb of hercules would offer the same thing Not Well, at least not in the herc s tomb thing cos that only took one chapter The thing that intrigue me first time seeing the book is the title As someone who loves myth i would love to know how mcdermott twist on this one Disappointing, storyline wise, but [...]
An amazing book that is a cross between Indiana Jones, and the British Series Spooks or for the people in the US the series 24.Nina an archeologist and Eddie her ex SAS boyfriend and body guard are looking for the Tomb of Hercules This takes them on an adventure, from New York, to Shanghai, to Botswana, to England, to Switzerland, to Algeria and back to New York again On the way they deal with crazy ex wives, nuclear bombs, submarines gone crazy and traps in old tombs All in all an easy entertai [...]
Oh man Can Andy McDermott write a fun filled, action packed, outrageous ride of a book After finding Atlantis, Nina and Eddie go searching for Hercules, only this time, Eddie s terrorist ex wife is in on the game I did not care as much for the Eddie Nina fits of jealousy when Sophia came into the picture but they still had their lighter, laugh out loud moments The testfor integrity to find the tomb kept me on the edge of my seat Although sometimes the bad guy death scenes reminded me of somethin [...]
Actually I did find the book I had lost, but it could have stayed hidden where it was forever because it sucked anyway Badly Hercules shows up around page 400 in the most predictable and boring ways, and the rest of the book is about bad guys chasing the good guys all over the world, and guess who always makes it Lots of people dead with bodies torn into pieces, and blood everywhere Bleah
This was my first taste of the series and I really liked it, with its outlandish plot and good helping of action packed scenes On the other hand it was pretty unbelievable in many area s, and I would only recommend this to those that only want action, not a well balanced and though out plot.
This is James Bond the Andy Mcdermott way, full of action and quirky one liners but not so sophisticated, and the character s tend to get a bit then a bruis If you like action movies then you will enjoy his books An quick easy read.
Good action packed book, although it does seem to drag on a bit with circumstances the two main characters get themselves in This is the second book in a series, but you don t have to read the first to get into the story.
I happened upon this book by accident and am glad to say it was a very happy accident I will be reading by this author The book had a constant flow of action that kept me involved all the way to the end.
It didn t dissapoint me, it had fast pace, lots of action, some dry humor and both main characters were quite real and human with real relationship problems even though Eddie had some wicked skills I loved the book and am looking forward to next.
This book had even action and location than the first one in the series I didn t think that was possible.Read the Atlantis book first, if you enjoyed that then you must read this.
Another good book by Andy McDermott Enjoy the story and the characters The thrills just keep coming.
Next one please.
Nina thought she d landed her dream job, great money, funding, and time to focus on a new obsession, finding the Tomb of Hercules After finding Atlantis she has a void to fill Chase, however, finds himself stagnating He was never designed to be tied to a desk, and Nina had changed, attempting to fit into her new lifestyle Such change is not always for the better A face from Chase s past creates strife, especially when he travels halfway around the world after her Little did he know he was settin [...]
A little better than the first but still waiting for a real thrill. This time Nina and Eddie are on their way to find the tomb of Hercules, although perhaps the greek name Heracles should really be used.Unfortunately, the two have what I always fear in many contemporary fiction books existential problems They fight, then they have afterthoughts, then they quarrel again, and so on The good thing is that somehow this is functional to the story and not just an easy way to increase the number of page [...]
It s supposed to the quest for the hidden tomb of Hercules The first clue to the location came soon enough Now, after reading 350 pages, I m none the wiser and neither is the protagonist Take those 300 pages and they would fit as well in Random Pointless Traipsing across the World , that too in the company of a heroine a so called scientist, but no such skills seen anywhere who fails to think logically and a hero who keeps swearing at every chance.I m gonna try to plod on and finish it somehow, [...]
